Nevada tags

Nevada tag results were finally posted today.

I drew a cow elk and my 13 year old son drew an antelope tag (both archery).

That's it! No deer tags for the first time in several years. We should have some meat in the freezer this year, just not deer meat.

I didn't draw anything either. I just put in for the second draw. They only had one Muzzleloader and quite a few archery tags left. I had some points on Antelope, so I put in for that one too. Good luck to you on your hunts.

That stinks you don't have a deer tag! Atleast you'll have some Elk meat, man that stuff is good! Antelope meat makes me gag though! Good luck with both of those hunts!

The thing with Antelope meat is in how you care for it in the field. I've been told many times by different hunters not to touch the hide and then the meat. The hair is hollow and has oils in it that contaminate the meat. I know it's hard, but it can be done.

In my opinion, antelope meat is some of the best table fare there is. It's all about how you treat it in the field, and how it's prepared. If you overcook it, it's nasty! But then so is most other meat if it's overcooked.

Archery antelope is in August here and it's HOT! You've got to take care of the meat. It's not that difficult.

Get the carcass emptied out quick, get the hide off even quicker, bag it and hang the meat in the shade over night. I don't care how hot it is, don't skin it and toss it in the ice chest. It will rot.

The meat has to hang and cool before you ice it down. Same with the hide if you plan to have it mounted. If you ice down the cape without cooling it down the hair will slip.

Pretty simple, really.

That's the premier Nevada tag. I'm still serving my 10 year sentence for a successful hunt in '06. Only 8 years to go...

Where are you headed? Obviously, you should PM me with that info!

My son drew a youth tag for deer in the second draw in the same area that I drew my cow tag. The youth tag is basically a "hair tag." Any deer will do!
