I like my Ren 700's Lots of thing to factor into to this. You might want to consider a 300 short or a 7 short mag. As for me i have two guns i use alot. A rem Mod. 7 In 7mm08 for backpacin At 5lbs. When I dont care about wt I use a Rem. 700 xts in 7mm ultramag which is great for longer shots

My next rifle will be a .270 or .270wsm. Either a Remington 700 or a Ruger m77. I really like the Ruger hawkeye with the green Hogue stock.

Just get a 30-06. Available bullet sizes from 125-220 grains and doesn't pound your shoulder.

Good enough for anything on this continent.

I'd suggest a Remington Model 700 or a Weatherby Vanguard.

If you are only going to have one gun, I have to agree with the 30-06. You can load it big or small, get ammo ANYWHERE; all around just a great caliber for a "one gun" guy...
I myself like to have a 'plethera' of guns to choose from! HEHEHE

Some may say criticize it for being "big", but I am a big fan of the 300 win mag or now days the 300 wsm is a great gun as well. The ballitics are great on a 270 wsm, although alot of people prefer the .30 cal. bullet and larger grain weights for elk; however I have shot everything from coyotes-to-elk with mine and love it. I do have strong bond with my 300 mag though. The 30-06 is one of the most time tested calibers out there, I just like the ballistics of the 270 wsm and the 300 better.

Good luck! 4c

imo,

you cant go wrong with a 7mm or a 300!

i currently shoot a browning abolt 7mm, if i ever decided to get another big game rifle, it would be a 300!

I have a 7mm and love it. We can reload it light for deer (about the same as a 270) or we can go on the heavier end for elk. It has not let me down yet.
