New to Utah, interested in hunting

Hey guys, I have just moved out to UT and I am interested in hunting. I have hunted whitetail in Georgia and western NY. What are some of the best ways to learn how/where to hunt around here? Is most hunting on private land? I know there are a lot of ranches where I am at. Are most ranchers out here hunting friendly (if I ask first that is)? I see muleys all the time on my commute past Snowbasin. I have also bumped into a few while hiking around Causey Reservoir. I know that hunting is allowed in the Causey area but cannot imagine dragging a deer out of there. Do most of you use horses or ATV's? Also, what about places like Hardware ranch? Just trying to get some ideas of where to even start. Is southern UT generally a better bet than the north? Sorry for all of the questions. I am just trying to get as much info as I can. Thanks.

Welcome to Utah and to the Muley Madness forum.
As for your questions I'll do the best that I can but I think that others here will be able to help better than I can.
For learning where to hunt in northern Utah you will just have to talk to the locals. They will let you know where the public land is at but be for warned there will be tons of people hunting there also.
It never hurts to talk to the ranchers and the worst that they can say is no but for the most part they are not real keen on letting people onto there land. This all stems from those few people that didn't respect the fact that they were on privete property and trashed it and tore it up until the owner said that they have had enough and stopped letting anybody in.
People here will use whatever means that they have to get an animal out. Anything from a back pack, horse, or ATV.
There are big deer all over this state but they are few and far between. Southern Utah has most of them though so that is why alot of people want to go down there to hunt. If you put in the time you can find some real nice deer in most areas but it will be a ton of work.
If you want to hunt deer this fall the only three options that you have left for the general season are archery, northern region muzzleloader, or northern region any weapon. These are the only tags that are left after the main draw this spring.
Here is a link for the Utah Division Wildlife.
I hope that this helps.
If you have any more questions please feel free to ask.
I have found most land owners don't allow the general public to hunt their property. Also, nowadays a lot of them are finding out the money involved with big game and are leasing their properties to hunting. If you can afford it, this is a good way to get quality hunting in Utah.
Shoot me an email, Gator, and we can talk more. I have lived in northern Utah for over 30 years so, I do know a few places worth trying.
::wel and where is Eden Utah again. I know down South but that's about it.
What weapon are you planning on hunting with? That DOES make a difference.
