Reminds me of another one I saw on the Boone and Crockett page of a big whitetail buck with 3/4 of another antler imbedded in his neck.
However, I will say that the email I got said that the extra antler is actually a third antler coming from a pedicle next to the eye.
Now, we all know that deer can certainly have extra pedicles. We see it once or twice every year at least. However, most extra pedicles are normally found around the forehead area.
However, I'm NOT too sure I am buying it. The eye looks infected to me (Notice the greenish "junk" around the bottom of the eye). Not to mention...and I don't know if it means anything....it sure looks polished to me. Too polished to be a third antler coming from the area near his eye. Of course, he COULD have injured his eye while rubbing the antler.
Anyway, the base of the third antler looks "heart shaped". I originally thought it was a portion of the skull plate when I saw the first photo that oldcp posted. I don't think it is now...but, who knows?
(The end of the third antler DOES look a lot like the end of the dropper on the MM mascot buck)
Anyway, thought I would throw these out for folks to take a look at and think about.
I wonder how the other deer feels with only half of his head gear left?
What a crazy place to grow an antler!
Heres your proof Cody :thumb
Thats is amazing and nice buck it looks like the antler was in there for maybe a year or two the way the skin and tissue was formed around it in the picture wheres the head is skinned!! that is incredible!!
Thanks for the proof, what a huge and awesome trophy.
