No opening success here.

Well Im back from my opening weekend deer hunt here in Utah. Wasn't able to put one down as of yet. Saw a ton of little bucks, a couple of shooters but just could not get close enough even with the wet vegitation from a rain strom.

How is everyelse doing. Lets see some pics. Of your bucks.

We got home last night from our archery hunt. Both of my boys filled their tags. Both of them got their first archery kill.

My 13 yr old son drilled a doe at 30 yards, the first deer he has ever drawn an arrow on. He put it through both lungs.

My 18 yr old son shot a little forkie at just under 40 yards on the next to last day of our hunt. He had passed on the smaller deer for 7 days before he made the decision to shoot this one.

I was right there with both of them when they released their arrows. I couldn't be any more proud of them for their success. Excellent shots by both.

I on the other hand couldn't close the deal. I had 3 excellent sneaks and closed the gap to 30 yards on one deer, 34 on another and after 5 hours of stalking one buck had him run up to within 2 yards of me before busting out on me after a 30 second stare down. Six feet is pretty close and it's hard to draw back at that range!

I'll post pics and more details later today. I've got a lot of meat to process right now...

I'm going back at least one more time. Labor Day weekend is my last chance. I passed on some smaller bucks that I won't hesitate to shoot later in the season!

My opening story with some crummy pics...

Me and my brother made it out Saturday on Utah's opener. Had a good time evening though I didn't fling an arrow, I did come close but am glad I didn't just yet. :)

Here is me sneaking up on a group of 3 bucks...

Nothing big, but one of the bucks was a 3 X nothing. And you know me, I like the weird ones. :)

He is a 3-point on his left with nothing on the right, I got to within 45 yards but blew it at the last minute. (Saw a bigger one earlier in the morning, so I may try to go back and get him)

Bedded buck is the "weird" guy. You see him?

Other 2 bucks are 2X3 and a 2-point.

Here is the parting shot, just after they spooked and took off.

Will try again labor day weekend hopefully, have 2 mornings that weekend.

Hope everyone was safe and had a good time.

Got REALLY wet as it had rained a ton the day before.

LEAD buck is the "weird" guy again.

Mark/Brett,

Well, good luck to the both of ya over the next couple weeks. Hope to see some great field photos soon.
I think I need to take up archery hunting so I don't have to wait until October! (I actually have two different bows at home but am not yet comfortable with my ability to kill instead of just wounding an animal. There's no way I'm flingin' an arrow at an animal until I'm comfortable with it.)

Brett, is your 3Xnothing bedded JUST in front of the middle Muley?

Mark, pass on my congrats to your boys!

Good luck to you and Brett in the coming weeks!

This is what I've been waiting for, living this year's hunt through all of you. Let the games begin!

It took me a minute but I finally was able to pick him out. He's bedded just in front of the lower buck pointing back towards the other bucks.

I haven't had a chance to make it out to chase deer yet but hope to in the next couple of weeks.

Mark,

Congrats to you and your boy's on a great hunt. =D>

Can't wait to see the pictures.
