no tag for me

Utah sold out while i was down with the swine flu and not able to get to the computer the tags sold out. We didn't draw for Southern and did not put in a second choice so we could get the preference point. sounded like a good plan to me cause i wanted to take my boys to my old hunting ground when i was a boy. anyway i have been waiting for tags to go on sale (June 11th) and came down with swine flu and got me and my wife quarantined :(. after they let us out (no internet at home) i went to get our tags and they where sold out. now i am stumped as to what to do. so if anyone knows or has information on buying deer tags over the counter in either Idaho or Wyoming (they 2 states i am closest too) and would not mind sharing i would be very grateful. I may not be able to afford an out of state tag in this economy put don't want the boys not to get to hunt this year. or if anyone knows of someone that has a Northern region tag that now can not hunt maybe we could go to the DWR and get the tag transferred and they can get there money back. PM me if you have any advice. thanks guys!!!! Brian

Idaho still has over the counter tags available. You have to buy a hunting license and a tag for you which gets pricey, but your boys can get mentor licenses and tags at a reasonable price.

Licenses are $154.75 and the tag is $301.75 for you and the kids can get a license for $31.75 and a tag for $23.75.

that sucks...any of the wyoming tags that are left over will give you a good hunt...if you want to try a whitetail there are tags left for the thermopilis and greybull area that would be fun for you and the kids the youth tags i think go for $100 which is a bargain for the hunt you will get.

Sorry to hear about you being down with the sickness... It is great to hear that you recovered well and will be able to hunt though! Good luck on finding a tag!

Utah still has elk tags available. You could take the kids out and I'm sure find plenty of elk in a Spike unit. Sucks hunting for spikes, but I always thought is was fun going with my Dad regardless of whether he/we killed anything. It's the experience that counts. Plus you would more than likely run into some big bulls and maybe a herd or two that your kids would probably get a kick out of. Just a thought. It's always better getting out there than not. My 2 cents.

+1 - I bought an OTC Archery Elk tag. I agree too, it would still be worth it to hunt on a spike unit just to take the kids along for the experience :thumb

Sorry about being down too, its a good thing you overcame your illness.

thanks Guys for your thoughts. I am feeling much better and am getting my strength back every day. :thumb i will get my boys this weekend and will talk over the options. thank you Bowtech your right it would be better to just get out and hunt. I do have some good access to some areas. I just swore off elk years ago because it seems you spending more money with little to no payoff. i did have a few spike areas that where always good for a spike but big bulls. good luck :>/

I feel your pain! I didn't draw stick either. No one in my entire family drew a tag. What a crock! Idaho has to get a point system going. We didn't draw last year either. No elk again. No Deer. No antelope. Gonna be an empty freezer. :>/
