OMG!

Holy cow there has been some giant elk taken this year. I wonder what next year will have instore. I hear a lot of states are going on some type of management for elk. For instance, for a branch antler bull you have to apply. What are your regs for elk in your area?

Elk here have been on a managment system since 1918. Since 1987 the eastern part of the state has been a draw system and every year it takes more and more points to draw hunts. Other types of tools implemented by the state are spike only hunts, which means any bull with a total of three or less points. Some people think that only older animals should be harvested, but I would say those people have no incling of what real game managment is. These spike only hunts have worked incredibly well as the number of branch antler bulls has increased dramatically in the areas where those hunts are offered. Here in Oregon the number of elk increases annually and the number of mule deer gradually decreases. The state has recognized this problem and I am the lucky recipient of a six week either sex tag in an area that elk have recently invaded. I hope to have a trophy elk picture to go with my trophy three point buck. hehe

yeah that 3 pointer you shot had a heck of a rack. I liked how the beams went strait out. I love those beams going stright out like that. The famous buck Popeye is a prime example of how i like mule deer racks.
