Opening weekend archery elk

Weekend Past... Elk 1 Bowhunter 0 ](*,)

Had a 340+ bull at 40yards - no shot. Then again at 73yards, and let him walk.... Going back this weekend to see if I can close the deal. :thumb

I was down doing some scouting on a limited entry area during the archery opener. It was hot and the elk were holed up pretty good. I did see a few but don't have any pics to post. I was pretty bummed about a couple of younger hunters that had arrowed a spike and then were unable to find it. They had only looked for about 2 hours and decided it was unrecoverable. They had wiped the blood off their arrow and made a couple of marks accross their cheeks below the eyes. It was like it was proof to others that they had shot an elk. A badge to them if you will. I found it disgusting that they hadn't given it more effort. Who knows, that spike may have been the next great bull in 7-8 years.

well good luck to you hopefully the elk start talkin a little more before the end of the hunt. I saw a couple of bulls down fish creek nothing huge just small five points. Had a few talkin but they werent really responding at all. I had a few chances at some cows and a spike but totally missed. Then had a heard feed into me and then the lead cow came out to early and i wasnt hidden yet and we sat and stared at each other for about five minutes before she took off with the whole heard. Had a fun weekend with a few shots though. hopefully i can come through this weekend lol
