OTC Elk Colorado

Unfortunately missed out this year and am planning for next year for my 12 year old son. Wondering opinions on the best over the counter Elk unit or guaranteed youth unit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure if this is statewide, but in SW Colo units, youth can put in for youth cow tags that are good as long as there is a season open and the tag is unfilled. You can pick the season that you want to hunt in, and if unsuccessful you take the tag to the local CPAW office and they "roll it over" or "convert" it into the next open season.
You and your son have the possibility of hunting for that cow for almost 6 months! :))
