Our season 2009

Here are the pictures from our 2009 deer hunting season in MN. We got the 8 pointer opening morning of bow season. We had him patterned pretty well and knew where he was living last year and this year. We thought we would be more likely to get him in the evening, but it worked that he did show up late enough opening morning to take the shot. He grossed right around 140 and field dressed 220 lbs. Not the highest scoring 8 point we've gotten but possibly the tallest overall as his beams are very upright.
The second buck was living just off of our land, so we relied on the rut to bring him in. We got pictures of him last year when he was probably 22"-24" inside spread. This year we got more pictures of him before getting him. He picked up a lot of mass and some more spread. He has a 28.25" inside spread and grosses in the 160s.
The third buck was kind of a mistake. We were looking for a 3.5 to 4.5 year old 8 pointer for meat. This guy came along with a smaller buck quickly, and we took him. He is a 2.5 year old 8 point. Not huge but a good meat deer.
We passed up several nice bucks during the bow/shotgun seasons. We passed up a 10 pointer and 11 pointer (10 pointer with about a 5" split coming off his G2) that had been in the same bachelor group as the bow season 8 pointer. The 11 pointer was probably around 140"-145". We passed up several nice 8 pointers in the 3.5 year old class too. Hopefully we can see the 10 pointer or 11 pointer next year when they are a bit older.
