Looking forward to this years lope hunt in WY.....Boys are not going to be able to go, so I am going "solo" back to the TBNG, God willing.....That isl where my youngest son and I hunted in 2007....I have a couple of points so I believe I will draw A27....
Last year my oldest son Jim and I hunted near Kaycee....Jim took his first ever lope after a healthy stalk in the rain and snow...I ranged 300 yards to the closest lope....The buck finally got up out of his bed and started walking towards us....he turned at about 275...Jim steadied his Rem 700 30-06 on a clump of sage brush and touched off.....The buck dropped and we cheered...It took about 20 minutes to walk around the end of the ravine he shot across....Jim was one happy camper....
The next day only about a mile from there I took up a post on a high hill....Jim took a walk for sheds and jumped a group of lopes my way....They filtered in through the hills and passed by me at about 350 yards.....My Douglas barreled Savage 25-06 found its mark and dropped this one...I back ranged it at 340 yards..my longest ever antelope shot.....
Here are a couple of pictures of our lopes....
Good luck to everyone in the draws,
Randy

After we finished our antelope hunt we headed over the mountain to hunt Deer M in the Big Horn Basin.....First day there we set up camp in the afternoon and took a walk in the BLM hills just behind our camp....Jim pulled on his boots and tied them up...set his gps and set sail...I asked him if he was going to take his gun....after all the driving he said "No, you take yours, I just want to look around."........Well, I took mine, but I was too tired to put on my boots...so I ventured off in my "boat shoes"........We split up and after a few minutes Jim whistled and waved frantically for me to come down to him......Long story short...he should have took his gun....I looked over the brim where he spotted the buck....Instantly I unfolded the bi-pod and lay prone....The buck and three does saw me and stotted up the hill on the other side of the canyon.....When they stopped I whispered to Jim "How far?"...He said close to 400...I didn't think they were that far so I held for about 350....The buck was quartering away strong.....I held just above the shoulders at the base of the neck....If it was truly indeed 400 I would still drop in low in the boiler room......We later back ranged it with the range finder at only 320.....The neck shot dropped it in its tracks!.......I think I posted a picture of him back in the whitetail section last fall but here he is again....
Jim hunted hard the rest of the week...He passed on several smaller bucks....But never saw the one he was after.....He made up for it in MN and WI with several nice whitetails....
