Is there 200+ deer still there? YES, but not high numbers. Pretty tough, but I know of a couple 200+ deer taken on Archery last year there.

How did your friends do? Lets see some pics.

I just like to use Google Earth. Its just about as good as any topo map. There are a few 200" left but they are few and far between. Most live on the CWMU or in the thick nasty stuff.

I have hunted there 5 of the past 7 years (lots of friends family have drawn elk or deer tags there, still waiting on my deer tag). It is a pretty place. I saw some great bucks last year. One that was amazing!!! The toughest part about the plateau has been the increased pressure the last 5 or so years by recreational ATVers and the horse races that go on during the archery hunts. The deer herd is on its way back up though and the elk herd is falling because of the increased "recreational users" pressure. It is not uncommon to have a group of 10 dirtbikes or 10-15 ATVs go by you several times throughout the day. There are a ton of logging roads so it is a bit tough to get very far away from the roads. I love the area but am saddened that so many other people are starting to love it too. I had an archery elk tag there two years ago and spent 14 days there with a few passes on smaller bulls and a few missed opportunities on larger bulls. I was sure I would have no problem filling my tag but there were fewer elk around compared to previous years and many more ATVs and dirtbikes. I would not put in for an elk tag there again but for deer the herd has seemed to be improving to me. I hope to be able to draw the tag next year to get in on the monster that I found. That is if you don't get him this year! Good Luck! I'll post some pics if I get the chance.

I don't have a ton of experience in the Pauns but live very close by and go dabble in their every once in awhile... I do know that it seems the chances of bigger deer are greater because they are in the southern part of the unit which is a little easier to hunt. Plus stuff on Cedar Mtn/Kolob/Mt. Carmel/Zion move over there as the snow gathers... But there are def. some huge bucks on that unit. Still one of the best producing units in the state year end, year out... Good luck!
