Hey I'm new to the boards..Anyway, I was looking for some information on a plant we found alot of mule deer eating on last year in the hills..I wasnt 100% sure what it was but the locals called the chokeberries, but from what I've searched online chokeberries are more of a flower that have small berries on them. These grew about knee to waste high, and I didnt see any berries on them, just small bushes with a round leaf on them. Kinda looked like a type of shrub in a way. We have found these in N.W. Nebraska and in South Dakota, never down in the praries really, they seem to grow in the meadows up in the hills more and they grew up in small patches. Any info on a specific name and the blooming times would be great. We hunted them some in late Oct. last year and the deer were still hitting them but they seemed to be on the way out and were drying up and starting to turn yellow and brown.
