Where I hunt in the breaks and Badlands in Mt 5000 ft is about as high as it gets. In WY it's 6-7 thousand. In both areas the bucks spend the day {mostly] hanging around or bedded about 3/4 up on the buttes or canyon sides.

6-8000 for me, missed a couple at lower elevations.

The only reason I put 6-8 is I shot my biggest on the archery hunt that high. Most of the really big ones I've seen have been lower.

Most of the best bucks I've seen were below 8,000 but this buck was right at timber line. I was scouting elk more than deer hunting and he maked a bad move and I caught him crossing the ridge I was on.

Some of the biggest bucks I've ever seen have been at or above 10,000 feet.

biggest deer I've shot was my '06 deer and he was right about 4500 feet or so. Seen some big ones up high, two of the biggest I've seen were right above the timberline on the south slope of the uintas. We shot at them out in the open and just like that they were gone in a flash with nothing to hide in but little pine stands probably 20' accross. Their tracks went into one stand and we figured we'd jump 'em out. So I walked through while my dad watched for them to bolt out but we never saw them again. Them old bucks are smart, not to mention patient. I've had some stay put until you almost step on 'em before they bolt. In thick stands they will just sit there and watch you walk past just a yards away.

Yup, hunted a ridge just above Mtn. Home for a lot of years, until they banned fourwheelers up there. Too many politics to make it fun.
