Hi all,
I didn't see a thread for our 2009 success pictures so I decided to start this one. On Friday the Lord blessed me with this nice 4 point buck. I backpacked in the night before and only saw 10 does and fawns and I was starting to think my area had been hit hard during the first week. I pushed about 2 more mile and jumped this buck about 80 yards off the old pack trail at 11:15 am. I initially was dreaming of a bigger buck but based on my real life schedule (school, family and work) decided that this one might not top my best but would look great in the freezer!
One last thing. I know many of you feel the same but isn't it great to get out into God's creation and get close to His animals? There has been no greater challenge nor reward in my life then mule deer hunting and I am very thankful for this and every opportunity I have had to do so. I am also thankful for the people I have met on this forum who have kept me dreaming of the day when I am able to take a buck of a life time. Good luck everyone and enjoy it while we are all still able to!
PS I boned this guy and carried him out w/ my gear in one trip! I never weighed my pack but it had to be close to 100+ lbs! I am licking my wounds but thankful for another great experience in my pursuit of such a great animal!
Good luck everyone and I look forward to seeing all of you trophy bucks!

i imagine there are people on this forum that where there when i shot this buck
on the strip..lol
had pictures of him before and he had broke off about 20" of antlers by the time i took him,he is about 28" tall, with not much spread
I'm sure that you're now hopelessly hooked on muleys and can officially join ranks with the rest of us addicts. Congrats and nice pic too.---shooter
Thanks to everyone for all the insight during my preparations
We had never been on the ground to scout, so we had to work hard for several days before we were able to find a pocket with some bucks about 3 miles deep. I spotted him at about a mile with 4 smaller bucks getting a drink from a water hole just before dark. The next morning I worked my way back onto the ridge and spotted them feeding right away. I was able to work into about 300yds without them picking me up, and then all I had to do was make the shot.
I am having a European skull mount done on him. he wasn't real wide, and i thought a skull mount would look nice.
The forum turned me onto my Vortex Skyline spotter and high country tripod, it is a great set up. I spent alot of time behind it and my Leupold Mojave 10x42s, so thanks again to everyone for the goldmine of information I found here.
