predatory black bear experiences?

just wondering if anyone else has had an encounter. I havent actually had one but a relative did, they had just bought some land around 20 km from my uncles ranch(an hour from the nearest town on a dirt road), we daily have to go check beaver dams (my grandpa started the family ranch/hunting outfit's fields with creeks running through to solve the irragation problem) and it takes us around 3 or 4 hours just at his house, but then the new dams were added, at my relatives new place(an old old hunting cabin with soem land) so usually 4 or 5 of us go to do them. but one day no one was there to help Tyson so he just decided to take a .308 just incase, upon arriving you must walk 15 minutes down the creek to teh dam site. while working he kept hereing things in the pretty think bushes just to his side so he brought the gun closer to him as he finished up, after getting back to the quad(there are only trails getting to the new place) it wouldnt start, so he tried to look it over to see teh problem but he heard a twig crack and in a panic he climbed on top of teh cabin maybe 7 feet off teh ground and waited, about 15 minutes later a bear charged out to teh bottom of teh cabin and stood growling at him, and then proceeded to try and climb up. this is about when the bear choked on a chunk of lead. after this he waited 6 hours clutching teh gun until we arrived to see what was taking him so long. after hearing teh story, we thought he had came across a sow with cubs or stumbled across a kill, so we looked for cubs/a carcass, and found nothing, then we checked teh bear to make sure it was even female. not quite, so we again looked for a kill or some thing, but nothing, so the only other explanation is him stalking Tyson. sorry to bore you with all the details but I thought that maybe you'd wanna know why he was stranded in teh middle of no where with a gun and on a cabin. (teh=the I was in a hurry, and any other spelling mistakes, please bear with me)

My Grand dad had a crazy expreince like that. He use to work for the wildlife department. he was payed to go out and kill black bears. he shot the 3 biggest black bear in Oregon. (thats where I live) It was 650 lbs. One day he was out looking for bears when he came upon a bear staring him down. the bear charged him so he ran to the nearest tree and climbed up it far enough so the bear couldnt get to him. As he was climbing he dropped his gun all he had was his 22 pistol. The bear would not stop comming up the tree. he would shoot it in the face with the pistol. It would run off for acouple minuts. then it would come back. after this went on for a good 20-30 minuts he didn't relize that in that tree above him the bears cubs were right above him about 10 feet. He didn't relize that when he climbed the tree. So he could either die or shoot the cubs so he shot the cubs and the mom went away. He said that was the scariest moment he's ever had hunting bears. Well, in 1993 I was bowhunting Columbian Blacktail deer 8 miles in a Northern California Wilderness. I also had abear tag, as the alpine area I was hunting had a lot of bears.

I had arrowed a blacktail and went back to camp to get my hunting partner to help me pack it out. When we returned, I began to bone out the buck and preare it for the long hike out. I happened to look up and saw a HUGE black bear ambling towards me with his head down.

I picked up my bow, as my partner layed on the ground to remain undetected. As the bear got closer, I couldn't shoot becasuse his head was down and he was coming straight at me on the trail I was standing on! I was at full draw when he decided to look up. He was only 5 YARDS AWAY when I hit him with my first arrow in the chest. He immediately reacted by standing on his hind legs and roaring as loud as he could trying to confront what had just hurt him. Backing away and loading another arrow was all I could do. Once he saw me he turned slightly and began to move to my right. I placed another arrow in the pocket and he ran about 50 yards and piled up. This all took place in about 10 seconds. Talk about adrenaline!

I've ran into a number of them while out hiking, hunting, or general screwing around in the country but my closest...and scariest experience was as a kid.
While visitin' my great grandmother on her spread outside of Missoula Montana my brother and I talked my dad into allowing us to hike to the other side of her property and camp for the weekend. The idea was to hang out out there and spend the weekend fishin' for brookies in the stream that boardered her land.
Well the first night in the tent turned out to be the last. Around 0100 or so I awoke to a nasty pain in my upper arm. After clearing the sleep from my eyes I realized that my brother was squeezing the life outta my arm while laying as stiff as a board! I was just about to ask what the heck was the matter when I heard the distinctive grunt of a bear JUST OUTSIDE OUR TENT! Well, when your 10 years old that grunt sounds like a loin's roar! We layed there, quiet as we could be for what seemed like an hour (It was probably no more than a minute but time seemed to drag) when that damned bear decided to stick his nose to the side of the tent. The moment it did my brother let out a scream that was heard clear to Helena...I MAY have screamed too but as the big brother I would never admit it. Once my brother freaked out I think the bear did too 'cause he let out one loud grunt and high-tailed it for trees. My brother and I layed there for about another minute before we jumped up and RAN all the way back to the house.
Of course, my father thought it was rather funny and threatened to cover us in streak sauce next time we went camping as punishment for leaving his camping gear out there. He didn't think it was too funny when we refused to hike back in to get it though (He ended up getting it for us later the next day).
Not as exciting as BOHNTR's story but it was at the time!
