PUBLIC MULE DEER HUNTING IN COLORADO

I HUNTED COLORADO GMU 75, 751 LAST YEAR FOR MULE DEER. WE HUNTED IN THE SAN JUAN NATIONAL FOREST WHILE THERE WE FOUND AN AREA WHERE THE ELVEVATION WAS RELATIVELY LOW AN COULD USE OUR ATV'S. THIS YEAR I AM LOOKING FOR THE SAME KIND OF AREA AROUND WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST OR ROUTT NATIONAL FOREST OR EVEN ROOSEVELT NATIONAL FOREST. WHICH AREA IS THE BEST AND I CAN ACCESS WITH AN ATV LOOKING FOR LOTS OF MULE DEER WITH 100% DRAW ANY IDEAS!

goswickcr, welcome to MuleyMadness!

I have never hunted CO before but in my experience areas that are easily accessed by ATVs generally do not equate to areas with a lot of deer...and certainly not quality deer. If you're serious about filling that tag you need to get away from places like that. Not to mention, an area that is easily accessed by ATVs AND 100% draw would also lead me to believe that the hunting pressure in that given area would be unbearable.

I can understand using an ATV if you're general mobility is restriced or some other similar reason. If this is not the case and you're willing to walk/hike, I'm sure there are folks that can point you in a direction that would help you fill your tag.

If you're dead stuck on using ATVs then I'm not sure how much help you'll find. I may be wrong though...I guess the folks on MM that hunt CO will be answer that.

These are just my opinions, goswickcr. Take them for what they're worth and good luck with your request. Enjoy the site!

ATV access= Lots of pressure

Lots of Mule deer= Limited area with little pressure or areas off roads a ways or Unit that is either all or mostly PRIVATE

100% DRAW= lots of other hunters or not many deer usually. Or just not very mature deer

All, I deleted the last 10 or so posts on this thread. It just started to turn into nothing but a pissing match...and we all know that we try to keep that sort of stuff to a minimum here at MuleyMadness.

goswickcr, it is apparent that you are not going to get what you are lookin' for here at MM. Good luck this year and I hope that one day you understand the point that most of the folks on this thread were trying to get across. "The essence of hunting is not to cut corners, to do things the easy way, and look for an easy kill. The essence of hunting is doing it the right way, getting outdoors and enjoying the beauty and shear wonderment of the great outdoors, enjoying yourself AND the experience, and matching wits with some of the most intelligent and beautiful creatures on this continent. If you're lucky, you'll harvest what you're lookin' for. But if you don't fill that tag you go home knowing that you did it right and maybe you'll get lucky next year."

Heck, my two most enjoyable hunts in my life ended with me eating my tag!
