Heya. I have been told that a typical muley does not have brow tines (i think you guys call them eye guards). Is this true? and if it is has any one shot one and have pictures of ones without them. A guy from where I got mine said he had one that he mounted that did not have brow tines.
Are brow tines and eye guards the same thing?
Thanks
Cheryl

When officially measuring mule deer for the records programs, eye-guards (brow tines) are classified as a typical point. They are quite common on mule deer, with approximately 70% of MATURE bucks sporting them.
However, when talking to the general public many hunters will not count the eyeguards when describing a 4-point buck. My avatar (photo) is a prime example. I would describe him as a 4-point with eyeguards. However, for scoring purposes, he's a 5x5. Hope it helps.
Here is a buck from last year that has them.
Here is a buck from the same area taken in the same week, only one eye gaurd.
And a 3x3 that I took out of the same area a couple years ago that lacks them completely.
