What is the max effective range of a .222 rem. ?
I have an old Rem. model 722 that I want to put a new scope on. It currently sports a 4x Lyman all-american, and I think its time for an upgrade. It's a good old gun and it will drive tacks, but the cross hairs are faint in the old scope.
Also, is it possible to tell what year the gun was made by its' serial number?

I love my .222 mag. I have shot out to four hundred yards at prarie dogs and have had some good sucess at it. They are awful small at that range and the wind will kill your accuracy when it blows but on a clam day it can be great practice.

I'm a big fan of the 222 myself. I killed my first deer with one when I was 10 years old. Ive got 2 in may closet now.
