Questions about a carry pistol

So, I went and took my concealed carry class and am just waiting to get my permit in the mail. I have looked at quite a few pistols and have always been set on getting myself a Glock 19. However while looking online the other day I came accross Hi-Point brand firearms. Does anyone have, or know someone who has a Hi-Point? I'm stuck in the mind set of "you get what you pay for" and am leary of a pistol that only runs $140 brand new. However I cannot find one bad review on them. In fact every one I read says they are very reliable and acurate. Not to mention they come with a lifetime warranty. If anyone has any experience with them, the help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't know much about Hi-Points, but I've got a Springfield XD in 40. S+W. Take a look at them before you make up your mind they are great guns

Man, that Springfield XD sure looks like an amazing pistol. I've been looking at them for quite some time now. They'll definitely be my next pistol purchase.

I've got a Hi Point 9mm and also a browning Hi Power 9mm. I prefer to shoot the Hi Point. I do believe it has a lifetime warranty also.

I cannot recommend the Hi-Point pistols.

But I can recommend the Springfield XD series. They are superior to the Glock in form, function and reliability, having been held to and exceeded the Glock functionality testing, as performed by Guns and Ammo magazine.

I own and carry the XD45 Compact each and every day in an IWB holster and LOVE IT!

So how does it perform compared to the Browning? Is it as accurate? Reliable? Any design flaws?

For the price I cant really pass it up.

I have a hi-point 9mm and have had no problems with it. It is a great gun for hiking and riding the wheeler with. :) I don't trust it near as much as my H&K that I carry everywhere else. :333

See and that's what I would be doing with it. Packing it when i'm out riding or camping, plinking at a target every once in a while, and carrying it in my truck when my job puts me on the road. Mostly I want it as a self defense pistol, but for me even the $140 is a lot of money right now and I dont want to get something that is just going to make me wish I had waited and saved up for a $500 pistol.

I havnt had problems with either gun. Im more accurate with the hi pointe and it is more compact.

I like the 2 inch Rossi .357 mag. Small and inexpensive, and you have to figure 1 of my bullets is like 2 1/2 of someone with a 9mm. I was sold when the guy told me it will drop an 8 foot grizzly. Still waiting for my shot at that one.

Wouldnt want to be around when you shot the 8' grizz with that 357...
It would make me sick to watch a mad bear chew on another human being...

the hi points are ok but i would not want to rely on mine in a self defense sit. i have a .40 sw in the hi point and it jams a lot of times i would not trust it enough to feel confident. i would save the money asnd buy a more reliable handgun.
