First off, i'mn ot sure if this should be in here or campfire talk. So sorry if it's in the wrong forum.
Anyways, I just graduated and really have no idea what I want to do with my life yet. I've always wanted to become a guide, so i've been seriously considering this. However, one thing is holding me back... What do you do for work during the off season? I know the answer will differ for many people based on past experences and location but if someone could just give me an idea it would be greatly appreciated. (???) Thank You!

some of the guides that work for me are wild land fire fighters in the summer and guide in the fall/winter. one of the good things about wild land fire fighters is come fall they are in very good shape. :thumb

i would do construction in the offseasons when i wanted to have an offseason. it depends on how much you want to do it. say you start in august for an outfitter scouting/ getting camp ready then fall season would go to the end of the year, in New Mexico it will take you clear through jan. then you can guide mt. lion hunters through march. well then next you can do sring bear or turkey hunters.that will go through the end of may. lastly a lot of outfitters run summer pack trips into their fall hunting grounds so taking people just camping for the summer could work you untill August scouting rolls around again. some years i would do alot of these and just take the summer of to just hang out, see family or what ever i wanted. I also know a few guides that do wild fire fighting in the summer then guide, the only problem was their buisiest time of year was august and would run into september so it was hard to predict when they could come to guide and would be tougher on the archery season. Hope that helps, feel free to ask anything!

A lot of guides, particularly in Alaska, guide fishing during the summer.

I have sent some of my grads on to Taxedermists, cattle ranches, bird outfits, hound outfits, dog sled outfits, snow mobile guiding, Eastern whitetail outfits or they just chase the seasons from state to state. There is plenty of work in the off season for the willing. Some just take the few months off that they have and go play.

We'll I usually start scouting out animals in early July then come september we start our guided hunts, that usually runs through nov 15 then I usually guide cow elk hunters, then its over for me hunting wise. The offseason I build houses, design and make graphics for people and I also build websites. that usually keeps me busy until the next july.
