Questions regardin AZ mule deer tags and drawing

l contacted the AZGFD today to ask a few questions, however l dont think the lady on the phone understood my question or she was new, either way she wasnt able to full answer my questions. So l figured l would post here because there are a lot of AZ hunters that know the process very well.

1. When applying for a hunt, for my 4 choices can l put the same area, or must each hunt be for a different area? For example, can l put 13A on my application four times or must each choice be different so it would read
choice #1 13A
Choice #2 13b
Choice #3 12aW
Choice #4 12aE

2. Can a hunter apply for a archery hunt mule deer and the rifle hunt mule deer in two different applications? Or is it one application per animal? In Nevada we have one app, but can choose any combo of hunts. So the first choice may be muzzleloader in areaXX and choice 2 is archery in area yy. But youonly get one app per animal. Is that the same for AZ.

3. Between areas 12 A, 12 B, 13 A & 13 B which areas are considered the Kaibab and which are considered the Strip? And of these, which is considered the best tag for both archery and rifle?

For archery it appears that 13 A & 13 B are the best since only 70 tags total are given away and the draw chances are extremely low. But for rifle, what is the ideal tag?

No.......if you only want to put in for one area, all you have to do is put the desired area as your first choice and leave the others blank

Only one application per species is allowed. However, you can mix weapon method hunts (like NV) on the same application (archery, rifle, muzz)

Kaibab is 12A and locals consider 12B as well. 13A/B are the strip. For rifle, 13B is one of the most sought after tags in the nation. For archery, many would argue that 12A is better, as there are far more deer.

For archery it appears that 13 A & 13 B are the best since only 70 tags total are given away and the draw chances are extremely low. But for rifle, what is the ideal tag? Only the best if you have a guide or know that country like the back of your hand. Even those who grew up in that unit tell you the odds are not in your favor with a bow. Remember, the Strip is 5300 square miles with about 2000 deer. However, the caliber of bucks you MAY see are incredible. With a rifle.....13B is a great tag to have, as it's during the rut and your chances of encountering a giant buck increase dramatically. Just remember, for non-residents, unless you have max BP for those hunts (rifle and bow in 13B) your odds of drawing are almost non-existent. For the 13B archery hunt, without max points, you can not draw.

BOHNTR- Thanks for the information.

l understand that the tag takes a while to draw. That is why l am searching out this info. l plan to start acquiring bonus points this year and start the process. l know it can take 10+ years so l figured l better get started.

For archery.....you have a good chance of drawing 12A the first year you put in......even as a non-resident. Just a thought.
