Rangefinder opinions

I think it's time for me to start looking at another rangefinder... my Nikon 550 gives readings on buildings, cars, etc. but I can't for the life of me get a good reading when I'm out in the field at all. If I'm inside 100 yards, it'll give me a reading no problem, but past that and it's up to my judgement. I checked my warranty and it was only a year coverage and I'm about 6 months overdue. So with that being said.... what rangefinder has worked best for you? I'm looking to maybe spend around 250-300. I know the quality probably goes up quite a bit with the price, but that's my budget for now.

I have a Leupold RX-600 and LOVE IT! It's pretty basic, no ballistics angle readings or anything like that but I can get a reading on anything out to 500 yards with it... buildings, cars, deer, rocks, even tiny patches of dirt. I don't know if I got the "exception" or if all are this good, but I'm thrilled with it.
I have tried the step up, RX-700 which has the ballistics bells & whistles, but could not get a reading on anything outside of 100 yards. Not too impressed with that model, but the basic model 600 works great for me for just a shade under $250. :thumb

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll be up in Idaho this weekend near a Sportsman's Warehouse and am hoping I can pop in and take a quick look at that one.

I've been wanting to take a look through that one for a while now, but haven't had the time to drive to the major stores (sportsmans or cabelas) that carry them. I did take a look at the Luepold RXi 1000 and was very impressed. Readings were super fast and it also has the red LED that a lot of RF's have these days. I'm definitely leaning towards this one now...
