Have any of you seen the CNN "Remington under fire" special report? I have to admit I am certainly not ever a CNN fan or watcher but saw the show listing and had to watch.
I hate it when a agenda driven producer films a documentary they have NO experience with which is all evident within the piece. But, the argument and underlying problem is undeniable.
I have owned and shot thousands of rounds through model 700's without issue but the defect in the trigger mechanism is real or was. The new mark X pro eliminates the problem and is based off a design made as a correction right after the initial design but never implemented. So now sixty some years later here we are.
Anyway, if you have not seen it you ought to watch. If you have seen it I would like to know everyone's opinion of it.

I seen it, and it was kind of ironic as a friend of mine told me a couple years ago how he was out hunting with a friend and his rifle just goes off when he switched the safety off. I figured it was a freak thing guess there was an issue with a small percent of the older Remingtons.

I watched that as well. It is hard to say just what the deal is really. I own a model 700 as well and have well over 1000 rounds through it and never had a problem at all. Definatly need more information on this!

I saw it and can attest that the deffect is real. My Dad hunted with the same Model 700 since he was 18 years old. Well in 2005 while we were taking a brake he was goin to clean his barrel out because he had taken a spill and got mud in it. Thank God he was aware of of his muzzle as always and when he clicked the safety off the round went into the hillside! Needless to say the gun has been fixed but he also hunts with a brand new Remington 700 now.
