Guest, first off, welcome to the site. If you would, join up and get yourself a login password and name. We could use all the new blood we can get here.
As for the type of rifle that's best for Mulies, I also have all three calibers you mentioned but pretty much stick with my trusty .270. However, all three are more than adequate...it's just a matter of hitting the deer in the right spot (And finding them first!). If your a good marksman, you shouldn't have any problems with any of those calibers.

Purchased Remington 700BDL SS in 7mm Remington SAUM. It did everything I needed it to do on Elk in the 2003 season.

Remington all the way, especially those old 700's made in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. They seem to be a little better'n the stuff they put out now, especially the fit, finish, and out of the box accuracy. That is not to say, however, that the higher-end stuff is not primo. I guess maybe the "Walmart" line gets a bit production-happy at the expense of overall quality. And I know we all like the new bolt lock 'n key device that keeps us safe. The older ones are definitely the way to go if you can get 'em.

One thing for sure, Remington's customer service has hit rock bottom. Used to be Remington (and most American gunmakers) could not do enough to take care of ANY problem you might have had with their product, regardless whose fault it was.

No more. Ruger is still fairly customer friendly, although not like they used to be. I don't know about Savage or Winchester....never owned one. I can say, however, having owned over 100 Remingtons during the past 35 years that they are not the company they used to be. Yeah, they have a slick website and cute marketing but their customer service reps are about like what falls out of the backside of a dog.

I still dream of there somehow being a pre-68 700 bull out there in 7mmSTW....... 8)

As for me and my family we shoot Winchester. Then there is that old Ruger I forgot about it, and ya I just purchased a Rem. M-700 in 300 Ultra. But yes we shoot Winchesters , Thats right. Winchesters. My oldest daughter just turned down a new Rem M-700 because she knows I gonna die someday and she will get My old Pre-64 Featherweight in 30-06. She killed plenty of times with that Winchester. Yea Winchester!

Hello,
I am a new member to the sight, Watched a big muley this morning and thought I should learn more about the behavor, not only to see that rack through a scope..but maybe get close enough for a few good pics.
I was interested to see what cal. rifles people were happy with...did not see a 30-30 in the bunch...no laughing guys....I have had a 270 win. loved it, but sold it to a friend of mine, it was the only gun he could hit anything with.
I most always hunted thick bush...my trusty 30-30 win. was all I needed ?
till I moved to Moose country, and Muleys laughing at me from 300 yards.
With all the gun control crap going on up here in Canada..I decided to give the 30-30 a try. Well three moose and a half dozen muleys, l can say this gun can do the job... this gun has made me a better hunter...because I will not take the shot if it is over 200 yards. Yes my 270 is on my christmas wish list...but the time I have spent learning to stalk with my pea shooter, is invaluable to me.

I think before anyone buyes a firearm the number one thing you should consider is where it is made. You should try to support your americian brothers and sisters as much as possible. Ruger ,kinght ,thomson center are three of many quality americian firearms. I know you cant buy american all the time but it is important to try. You would be surprised how many big name gun makers like savage browning ect. are not americian these days.

I have been using a Rem 7400 in .280 for the last 8 years and love it, I made the mistake of letting my wife use it on her Antelope hunt now its hers O:) But that gave me an excuse to get a new gun, so I bought a Rem 700 in .280. It was a used gun but had been customized by a reliable person so I bought it and what a tack driver could not be happier. I have taken elk and deer with my .280

hELLO FELLas, I grew up in North Florida(Tallahassee) hunting world. My wife grew up on a wheat farm north of Great Falls MT. Alligators to big mule deer. Never been much of a deer hunter in Fla. but was curious about the WSSM loads?. Any info would be great. I have access to muleys now and want to buy a rifle that can go from mule/white-tail to antelope, since they are everywhere on her families property. From what I read the 25-06 seems to be a good choice for the area and type of hunting I would be doing. Thanks, lost in Montana, Stevie

I have a good supply of hunting rifles, most of witch I have won in raffles, the gun I seem to deer hunt with a lot is one I bought a few years ago and like very much, its a new england firearms single shot, in a .280 rem, ive takin whitetails over 300 yards more than once with it, but 3 years ago I won a browning .300 rem. mag. and it seems to find its way to my deer stand alot now days, its a little more gun than I need but it feels good when its drawn up ready too shoot, I have a handfull of rifles ive won in raffles that ive had for 7 years or more and never fired them some are remington and a couple brownings, I have a 45/70 gov. I won and have not even put a scope on it yet its a marlin lever gun, so id have to say my favorite deer rifle is my .280 new england firearms single shot.
I am new to the site and like the looks of it very well, I am going to mark the site and try to visit often, my intrest are more hunting with hounds for bear and cats but love my deer hunting.

I,ve used Remington's, Ruger's, Parker Hale's and various Mausers. I suspect I must be a Remington fan but, as another guy said, they're customer relation's has gone to hell. Also, the 700 isn't what it used to be but its still easy to bed. Oh yea, I've also used a couple L61R Sako's first rate!!!!

Recently looked at a new Savage with the new trigger. Next rifle will be one. My last two Remington 700's needed just to much work to get to shooting well.[/quote]
