BOHNTR,

have you scored on any animals yet this year. i still have two weeks to the day before i get to go. all in all there have been very few deer killed up in the north country of wyoming. i heard of one deer being killed a short distance from jackson that scored right around 220" non-typical. but i can't confirm that! just a rumor. there have been some good elk taken though, my roommate works for one of the only processing places in jackson and so he comes home and gives me a report everyday. if something big has been taken he calls me up so i can drive down and take a peak at it. i have seen three or four bulls all over 360"! my dad leaved tonight for his elk opener back home. he drew the shirley mountains for elk. the opener is not until friday but he is leaving a few days early to do some last minute scouting, he has a good bull picked out but not sure if it made it through the bow season. he thinks it will score about 310-320, not a record bull, but by my standards anything over 300" is a pig. so i wil just have to sit back and wait for his return. then he and i meet up on the 13th for deer season. he has been up on the unit a couple times and has reported seeing alot of good looking deer, one in particular that tickles my fancy. 32" wide typical four point with good deep forks and mediocre mass. my dad thinks he will score probably around 180-185 b&c. not a first day shooter but towards the end he will make a fine deer.

I bet you're chomping at the bit to get in the hills. My hunt was a long one (20 days) of a lot of ups and downs. I passed quite a few decent P&Y bucks, but I was after a better-than-average muley. Utah was a bust, as I only saw one buck I really wanted. Had him at 40 yards before he decided to change counties!

Arizona was okay, just never got a chance to shoot an arrow at the one I wanted. I did pass quite a few 4x4's in the 140-155" range. Had a good hunt though, and one of my partners arrowed a mid 160" buck with his recurve at 12 yards!

I did get to stick a fat coyote while still-hunting the woods in AZ. Now, I'm just gearing up for Blacktails here in crazy California. I'm sort of bummed though, as one of my partners just called me and let me know he arrowed a 120" 3x4 today that he and I had been watching. Good news is there's a bigger 4x4 in the same area. Maybe I'll get lucky. =P~

Good luck on your hunt and post up some pics when you get back. Have fun and be careful.
