Saskatchewan Muleys (Pic's)

Nice looking website. Good to see as many hunters sharing my love for these brutes. Well here's this years harvest. Three out of four of my hunting buddies got pulled for muley, myself included. The first one to tag out was Ken. He owns a taxidermy business locally, and can afford to spend a little more time in the field scouting. He put over 200 hrs into this beauty. I sold him my Hoyt Alpha-Tec and this was his first year hunting bow. Opening day of archery, two hours into evening hunt and this buck walks by just like he had for the last month, 15 yrds out. Netted 222 5/8 non-typical on a 202 typical frame.

Next to tag out was myself. I didn't make it out until muzzle loader season started. I have a 175 class typical on my wall so I was looking for something with character. I found this guy two days before the season and hunted him for three days until I finally got in on him for a 70 yards shot. I didn't bother scoring him on account of his lack of frame, but his inside spread was 31 inches with 15 scorable point. Lots of junk, I couldn't be happier!

Last but not least was Big Roy. This was his first time being drawn, and his first muzzle loader hunt. He did his homework on this one. Him and I patterned this buck for a week and a half before we finally bellied over a coulee top to find him. It was a coulee we'd seen him run into a few times but we had never disturbed it. kind of left it as his "safe place". Well we crept over the top only to see 6 other mature bucks bounce out the other side. Roy was about to shoot one of them that had stopped for a look back when I saw the big guy laying low in the bottom with all the girls. Roy made a beauty of a shot to topple this 5x7 that netted 211 and change non typical.

What a year! There are really some world class animals around here, and it was one of those seasons where everything seemed to fall into place. I hope you all had awesome years also. Kevin.

Does Swift Current still have the good hockey team? A couple of our Avalanche players played there.

Funny you should mention the Broncos. I just went to the skills contest the other night. Unfortunately we have had a relatively weak franchise the last 2-3 years. It's a bit discouraging. However we can take pride in the fact that we are a growing franchise, expanding our facilities, while drawing on the smallest fan base in the league (16,000). I ran into Joe Sakic last summer at the fair. I had to do a double take. He's a bigger guy than I expected.

Swifthunter, 16,000 that is impressive! I didn't realize that the areans were that large. I have been a season ticket holder to the Colorado College Tigers for a long time and really enjoy there games, even more than the NHL, until playoff time...then the NHL is great. Joe Sakic looks smaller on the ice, when you compare him with the rest of the huge players but you're right, he is larger in person. I know a guy who works out with him a lot during off season and he says Joe is really strong for his size, I guess why we don't see him get knocked off the puck to often. I have an old hunting partner that's from Spy Hill, Sask, as a matter of fact, he played for the Avs too.

Our arena is only 1500'ish. The entire city is 16,000! Hey it's a small world. My mom lives in Spy Hill and I grew up on a farm about four miles from there. Seeing as there are only 150 people there I'm pretty sure you hunted with Jeff. I know him also. He's a few years older than me, but I used to box with his brother Scott and hung out with his sister Candice. Good people. Jeff still holds a charity golf tourney every year. Mom says he built a big spread down in the valley.

Very small world indeed! I used to hunt with both he and Deader but they both were traded away. Great guys and I really enjoyed hunting with them. Since then, Adam moved to Idaho and retired. Sad deal but the concussions took their toll. I haven't talked to Jeff in a few years. I still remember our last hunt together, the Avs placed him on wavers, as Pierre Laquiox didn't think anyone would take him but sure enough the Wild did. So Jeff buys a home in MN, gets his family situated, purchases a goose blind lease. After our Colorado bowhunt, he's headed up to MN to report to camp and while on the way....the Wild trade him away. What a bummer, he didn't even get a chance to wear a jersey for the Wild. I remember Pierre was upset that we lost him, as he was a great team player. If you see him, tell him Jeff McKinney said hello and we need to hook up for a hunt. Ask him about some of our Wyoming hunts....or the time that he and Adam hauled out that whole elk on their backs, with makeshift backframes, in one trip to boot. Yes, we had some great times. If you have a phone number for him, please PM me with it, as I'd like to call him.
