saveing the meat.

I'm going to take an elk in Colorado. I need to get the meat back home in good shape. It's a day and a half home. Normally for venison I ice it down in coolers and leave the plug open so the blood drains. If I keep the ice fresh its good to go for a week. Will this work for Elk for a few days? Thanks.
