SE New Mexico Yote hunting report......

Breaker, Breaker 1...9, Got yer ears on??? HA<HA<HA, okay fellas, I finally got the chance to go out yote hunting this morning, and I turned out the lights on one (sorry no pics, forgot the camera @ home), but I'm not sure if I'm using my call and decoy right.

I got a Predator Stalker remote controlled game call. For ya'll that aint familiar with those calls, it's and electronic call with a 50yrd remote control, and on this control there's 5 different calls:
1= Injured Canine Pup, 2= Cottontail distress call, 3=Howling Coyote pack, 4= Fawn distress call and a Rodent distress call.

Now I've never used a predator call before, heck this was the first time I went out coyote hunting, but I'm not sure how to use the darn thing. Am I suppose to let a call continously run until the coyotes come flying in, or do cycle these calls, and if so how??? Need some advice here guys, let me know how it's done.........Eastern NM hunter

If your shooting them you must be doing something right. For the most part all you need is more time in the field calling. After awhile you will start to notice that one style of calling works better that the others do. The one thing that you don't want to do is call the same way all the time in the same areas. Some times use a different sound and alternate between how long you let the call run and how long you wait in between calling sequences. It's not an exact formula that you follow every time. Just kind of play with it and see what works for you in your area.

I've seen many different kinds of calling sequences work and they can all be deadly. Everything from howling them in to making a kissing noise on the back of your hand. If you can find a DVD or tape of Calling All Coyotes made by a guy named Randy Anderson. In his movies he explains what type of calling methods he likes and shows then being put to use in the field. At first he doesn't use electronic calls and says that he doesn't like them but in his later movies he finds some that he likes and uses. They are very informative and have some great shooting in them.

Hey bow-nut, thanks for the reply. That's true, I must be doing something right if I'm shooting dogs. May be I expected something different. I watched a hunting show not long ago where the guy was using the same set up and he could barely keep his gun loaded cause of all the yotes coming in. Gotta admit, it was pretty darn cool watching that yote come in to the decoy. Well I'll keep hunting and may be next time I'll remember my camera...........................Eastern NM hunter

If so it appears to work fine. I am thinking of getting started myself and I am trying to decide on a call.
