SHARPENING MONTEC BROADHEADS

ANY ONE USING G5 MONTECS AND HAVING PROBLEMS RESHARPENING THEM? I KEEP HEARING OF PEOPLE UNABLE TO GET THEM SHARP. I'VE BEEN USING A FLAT DIAMOND STONE AND JUST TOUCHING THEM UP. I'VE FELT COMFORTABLE WITH HOW SHARP I'VE GOTTEN THEM. BUT WITH ALL THE NEGATIVE I'VE BEEN HEARING, I'M STARTING TO DOUBT THAT THERE SHARP ENOUGH? I GUESS WHAT I'M ASKING IS, HOW SHARP IS SHARP ENOUGH? MINE WILL TAKE THE HAIR OFF MY ARMS, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO SHAVE MY FACE WITH THEM!

i've heard great stuff on these broadheads. saw a test where they shot a propane tank and these were the best for penatration and durability. by the way i think if it shaves hair you should be pretty good.

I agree if you can shave it's plenty sharp. I have an old bowhunting videa where the guy shows how to tell if your broadhead is sharp enough.

take a old chunk of leather in 2 fingers of each hand. stand arrow with broadhead. with very little force pull down on leather. if arrow bends before penatration occurs it's not sharp enough. I have tried this with my old bears and it works great on giving you an idea if they will penetrate nicely or if they are dull.

Just use a flat stone and work it back in forth. They will get scarry sharp fast. They have a video on the website that shows you how!

I use them and have had no problem getting them sharp. It does take a little time though. I use the same technique that they show on their video.

so my question would be as long as i use brand new montec's i shouldn't have to sharpen them right? I would think they would come plenty sharp from the factory

I have no respect for G5 after the ripped of Wac'ems with that striker head. This is a clasic david and golith story........ :>/

I beleive what he's referring to is the patent infringement.....no make that patent theft.....that G5 committed on Wac'em Broadhead Company. A while back, the owner of Wac'em was approached by G5 and asked if they could buy his company. He politely declined, as his unique head design was taking off fast as a top seller. He had also worked hard from his home to produce these heads....and yes he has a patent on the design.

Well, a little time went by and "BAAM" G5 comes out with a "new" head.....the Striker. Funny thing is, the design is an EXACT copy of the Wac'em. The timing proved they had already stole the Wac'em design and tried to purchase the company to cover themselves when their product hit the market. Just another story of a large corporation trying to put the small business owner out of business and stealing their ideas.

Personally, I will NEVER buy another G5 product as long as I'm around. I stand by Scott's product (Wac'em) and endorse it because it works, and it's made by a bowhunter from Utah with a good work ethic and plays by the rules.

Hopefully Wac'em can afford the attorney bills to fight this and win a settlement. Time will tell.

I have never been very impressed with the Montec's either.

Especially after my own testing.

I have shot Snuffers for years now and will probably never shoot anything else!

WOW. I DIDN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE (???) G5 vs. WAC'EM (???) DEAL. I STARTED SHOOTING THE MONTECS LAST YEAR AND WAS REALLY HAPPY WITH MY ARROW FLIGHT. FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, I HONESTLY DID NOT HAVE TO MOVE MY SITES IN JUNE GOING FROM FIELD POINTS TO BROADHEADS. DEAD ON ACCURACY, AND THEY SEEM TO DO A NUMBER ON ANIMALS. NOW I HAVE TO RE-THINK MY SET UP. I'M OFF TO MY LOCAL BOW SHOP TO CHECK OUT A SET OF WAC'EMS. THANKS FOR THE INFO.

well i can see the point but-- lets be realistic here, I'm sure that all wouls agrre if youv'e been shooting these heads with great succsess then stick with them, whats more important a wounded animal or showing support for the small company. i mean if your like me you try them all, and if the wak'ems work then great! but if there is the least bit of negative difference then stick with what works! my testimony is is shot a deer in montana this year with wac em's and was utterly dissapointed! when i retrieved the arrow all 3 blades had been broke off at the shaft. i did take BOHNTR'S advise by making sure the blades were tight and i think i will give it another whirl but I'm not real sure they were not supper tight and broke for some other reason. but I'll keep testing them!

CVRN; WHAT DID YOU SHOOT THAT BROADHEAD INTO?

P.S. I DID LOOK AT THE WAC'EMS AND COMPARED THEM TO THE STRIKERS. THEY LOOK A LOT ALIKE, BUT LOOK AT A LOT OF PRODUCTS OUT THERE TODAY. MAYBE WAC'EM SHOULD BE CONTENT WITH THE FACT THAT SOME OL' BOW HUNTER CAME UP WITH A BETTER MOUSE TRAP. SO MUCH FOR ALL THOSE HIGH PRICED ENGINEERS EMPLOYED BY THE BIG BOYS!

Unfortunatley, that's exactly what big manufacturers hope they'll say.
