Shed Hunting

Is there any rhyme or reson to finding sheds? Or do you just go out and hope to step on one. What I mean is, are there certian things to look for? Do deer and elk just drop em or do they try to rake them off on something? The area I've been looking in is really open with some scrub oak and occasional junipers. I know for a fact that there were large numbers of elk there in the last few months and the place is always silly with deer. Just wondering.

the big 3 i found was by a cedar that i think he knocked it off on and ive heard that they jar them off when the jump fences

Go look where the deer and elk winter. Dont just look for a whole shed. look for a tine or a tip sticking up. Hope you can find some!

Go to raveins and look around them, the bucks will cross the ravein, hit the bottom, then the antler will sometimes knock off. The best thing i think to do is walk along deer/elk trails and scan up and down side to side of the trail. thats how i've found most of the sheds i have.
