Some Q's about velvet

First I wanted say this is a great site. I've been lurking most of fall and winter just soaking in all the good info here but I've got a few questions about velvet bucks.

This fall I'm planning on hunting the muzzleloading season here in CO(sept 12-20) and was wondering if, generally speaking, the bucks have shed their velvet by then. I know you can't pinpoint exact dates but generally speaking will the bucks still be in velvet? This is the first year hunting in CO(big game at least) since leaving VA 10 years ago and back east we never thought about velvet since most of the seasons run later into the fall/winter.

I'd say that during that time frame you could see bucks with and with out velvet. Here in Utah the bucks that I've seen on the archery hunt (which starts the third week in August) are always in the velvet. The bucks that I hunt on the muzzleloader hunt which starts during the fourth week of September are alway free of velvet. I would assume that the Colorado bucks shed their velvet around the same time frame.

The buck that I shot this year on 9/25/08 had gotten a little lazy. His browtines still had some velvet as well a two small patches on the under side of the main beams.

From scouting activities, the bucks seem to start shedding the velvet around the first part of September. Maybe some of the Coloradoians can pipe in.
