southeastern utah deer

I'm hunting the southeastern unit for deer this year for the first time. Anyone out there have any advice? I've been looking over the maps and google earth, but would really appreciate info from anyone who has actually hunted it. I'm wondering if anyone hunts the desert areas as opposed to the mountains? I'm more into hunting than combat and will trade #s of deer for a little less mayhem anytime. I'm going to do some early scouting, but I live up north and have to scout for two elk hunts this year as well so it's going to be tough to get down there much. I also love backpack hunting and am willing to hike for miles.

I live and hunt in the southeastern unit and to be honest the deer numbers are down this year. I hunt the desert to stay away from the crowds but the last few years even the desert is getting crowded out (ALOT more hunters than deer). Theres still a few good bucks in the deep canyons off skyline drive, i watched a 3x4 about 28 wide up there last night. There could be a buck anywhere but there will be people everywhere, wish ya the best of luck
