I liked the article, but I am completely annoyed with several of the comments that were posted below it. There are several tree huggin liberals that go off on how this bull should have been left alone to pass on his genes. There are several others who claim to be hunters that say the same thing. If they feel like this bull should have been left alone to pass on its genes, I ask why? Is it selfishness on their part? They must want the offspring roaming the hills for thier own hunts or photo opportunities. I say congratulations to Dennis Austad. Sure he spent over 150,000 dollars for his hunt. That is something I'll never do. But I do get an indirect benefit from his contribution. There will be some form of wildlife conservation that will improve because of the money he spent.

There are other comments about how the big elk will not make great tasting meat and that the bull should have been passed for a 'Meat" bull or cow. These people just don't get it. I agree that you should eat what you shoot (except Coyotes) but hunting is not about providing meat for your family. It once was, but the cost of gas, guns, tags, equipment, and so on far exceeds the cost of eating T-bones from albertsons on a nightly basis. No, hunting is not about providing meat, it is a nice side benefit, but hunting is about the experience. Its about time in the mountains, beautiful scenery, the thrill of spot and stalk, and the excitment of accomplishing goals when you are able to be successfull.

I could have posted my comment at the end of the Trib article, but why waste my time. The people there will not get it. In order to understand you have to of had experience in the field. I think most of the people here are ones who'll understand.

Happy hunting. I hope the dollars we spend can ward off the tree huggers long enough to enjoy hunting with my kids as they grow old enough to obtain tags.
