Stalking socks?

l just received my Larry Jones video "How to Hunt Mule Deer in Open Country," and it was the first time l had ever seen staking socks... are they commonly used?

Are they heavy wool socks or something special?

Sounds more like another gimmick to sell something else to hunters again.

"Dang, Fred, we need to turn around! I forgot my Stalking Socks!" lol

No, those are just heavy wool socks...I just use soft soled boots for stalking, can't stand to get caught running around in my socks...I've also used the Carlton Stalkers that go over your boot soles. They work ok...

Definitely not a gimmick. I've been carrying around an extra pair of heavy wool socks in my pack for years now.......get within 100 yards, take off my boots and slip on the wool socks.......sneak right in to the buck's bedroom and watch his eyelashes blink!

I'll concur here also, a good pair of wool socks will work wonders on getting closer to bucks. Much better chance and odds in getting in tight versus boots/shoes.

I have used thick wool socks on a few stalks but they only work well on more mild terrain and earlier in the year. Just use your own judgment on when to use them and they will help out a lot. I have found on real steep terrain and or cold wet weather they hinder you more than help. Just my observations.

I've seen the pictures of his house...There's a whole lot of bucks in there that prove it works! :))

Exactly. No reason to buy anything special, just carry a pair of heavy wools around and slip into them for the stalk.

The only thing that I can add is to make sure you take GPS coordinates of where you put your boots or mark it well in some way because all sagebrush looks the same.

See, that's the other reason I don't like taking my boots off....I hate walking circles looking for them...LoL! :))

I took my boots off and used an extra thick pair of wool socks over my regular socks. This allowed me to slip in 35 yards on a bedded group of 4 high country Mulies. I arrowed the biggest buck which grossed 195 3/8. This tactic definitely worked for me.

I like the safari sneakers....got a pair this year cause I wasn't a fan of always having to take my boots off, especially since where I hunt there are a lot of rattlesnakes. And I must say I like them a lot and have let me get close to a lot of bucks.....and I used them this year when I got my buck. But I know a lot of guys like the wool socks and would totally have stuck with them if it weren't for those little slithery serpents!!
