state points question

I need some clarification...I have been accumulating points in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. If I was to buy a tag over the counter for Archery or what ever it may be, do I lose all my accumulated points or will they continue to accululate assuming I didnt draw?

thanks

In Utah the only way that you will lose you points is if you buy a limited entry permit for the species that you are putting in for. If you buy it you will lose your points and go under the waiting period also. This only applies to limited entry and once in a lifetime permits. If you have been applying for the general season hunts and you decide to buy a leftover general season permit then you will still be able to keep your preference points for the season that you had applied for.

Long story short if all you have applied for in Utah is limited entry or once in a lifetime hunts then you can buy a general season left over permit with worrying about losing your bonus points.

I hope that helped you more than it confused you.

In Colorado and Wyoming and long as you do not draw a 1st choice tag in the draw you keep your points. I have drawn 2nd choice tags in both CO and WY and kept my points. I have also bought OTC tags and leftover tags without affecting my point totals.

Kansas is the only state I know of that purges your points when you buy a left over tag.
