Story of my life!

I babysat this water hole all season 'cause I got so many pics of elk, and I was cautiosly optimistic it would come together, and the stars would align themselves so I would kill my first elk. This spot was in a "Spike only" area, but cows could be taken too, so I thought at least that would happen. Last Thursday at 7:15 I was at my spot and heard a bunch of trees snapping, the noise elk make when ever they move so much as a muscle, and here comes this guy (Mug shot taken earlier before the season). I was kinda out in the open, and he saw me on my knees. That was because I wanted to see if I could see what was making all that noise. I was wearing a mask and gloves to cover my white boyness. When he saw me, he stopped, looked right at me, I didn't move, and I know what he was thinking. "What is that? That wasn't here before". After he stared at me for about 20 seconds, he decided it was safe. When he passed in front of some aspen trees between us I pulled my mask over my nose to conceal my face evern more. He stopped within 25 yards in front of me and took a drink. When he did that, he stood broadside, and I'm thinking "Dang, that's a big target". But because I was hunting a spike area, I HAD TO LET HIM WALK!! #-o ](*,) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)
Ever have days like that?

Hunting on a spike unit I have also had many days like that but it's always fun to see and it's definatly better than seeing nothing at all.

It may be frustrating, but that is still an awesome rush to have an animal that size that close. Great job of staying concealed out in the open. :thumb

I can totally relate, it happens to me all the time. I'll have to show some video I took last week on an any bull unit I was on. I don't have a tag but called in a 5 point to 8 yards broadside. Another one had at 40 yards and a spike at 30 yards. All in the same morning. ](*,) Next year I will have a tag. :thumb

That is awesome Nuttin! The experience of having that big bull broadside and you in position to take him will live on in your mind.
