Tag Soup!

Well this year I applied and drew my first cow elk tag along with my dad. Hunted 4 and a half hard days in unit 61, 71 in Nevada and had a great time, although no elk. Saw a decent amount of elk but could never really get into position. Missed once at a jogging elk at about 200 yards just as it went over a ridge, not a good shot but figured it was the only chance I might get, another time I glassed a lone elk moving through the trees and attempted to get a shot on her but she busted us as we were stalking through the trees. Had a great time but I think it may be our last elk hunt in a while just because its so far away (7 hours) its just hard to get the time. Sadly I wasnt thinking and applied for this area for deer also and am not going to be able to make a return trip. Fun hunting trip but dissapointed I will not be able to get something this year. Looks like ducks from here on out! Good luck out there!

I never found a spike in my cross hairs after chasing them for the most part of the 12 day season. I had a blast though! Tag soup wasn't what I really wanted to end up with at the end of the season, but I gave it a really good effort, and it sounds like you did too. Better luck next year!..... and have fun with waterfowl!

Yup, I ate my fill of it this year, too. But I didn't walk away from the woods empty handed because I got me an education out there this year! Better luck to us all next year.

I am eating Tag soup also...Just my elk tag for now. I did however put an arrow into a bull at 30 yards. I watched him walk away with the arrow in him, leaving no blood trail and out of sight he went. Never did find him. We looked for 2 days. It really sucks. The cool thing was tricking him and his two cows. The cows walked 15 feet away from me right by me. They never knew I was there! I missed one buck with my bow during archery season and never got a chance with a rifle so now its time to bust the bow out again for late archery during the rut!

Haven't had to eat my tag yet, we'll see how the rest of the hunt goes.
