We all do some pretty stupid things when were young Im glad they were caught and hopefully this will teach them a good leason in life. Catch these guys when they are young and maybe it will save their life in the long run.But whats really sad is when I was younger I would have been scared, remorsefull, and I would have learned my leason. Kids these days I wonder if they even care.

i am glad they are doing stuff about it

Not severe enough in my mind, particularly the part that they "may" face many years of hunting priviledges restricted.

Glad they were caught...nipped them in but while they were still young...maybe they will learn a good lesson from this!

well "kids will be kids" but we were all kids once and i hate to see them get a life sentence for something they did when they were not mature enough to realize the effects!!! that said i dont think penalties are hard enough for poachers !!!!!!!!!!! but just remember some of the stupid stuff we all did when we were younger-- even if it had nothing to do with hunting --- bet we can all remember SOMETHING that was completly ignorant that we did!!!!!!!!!!!

They should never be allowed to hunt in Utah again. This makes me sick those animals just wasted. I can remember doing stupid things when i was a kid, but thankful enough i had a Mom and Dad that taught me to use common sense. Then to top it off the Mom is trying to hide the guns. Wow sure says a lot for the parents of the kids. No they got what they deserve and should have received harsher fines.

I agree in the fact that I am glad they were caught and quite frankly should face stiffer penalties than what were described in the article.

Killerbee, I agree that in our youth we have all done stupid stuff and that pure youthful ignorance had a lot to do with it. 2 things really bothered me about this particular incident though that lead me to believe that these youths need to be punished HARD.

1) They did it over a two month period. I can handle a kid making a mistake on the "spur of the moment" but the fact that these poachings occured over a stretch of time makes me beleive that it was much more than a spur of the moment thing. These kids got together and planned on doing it (that's the way I read it....I will admit that it does not say that in the article though and I have no proof of such).

2) The MOTHER of one of the kids tried to hid the weapons during the investigation! Talk about an "enabler"! Instead of making sure your son is held responsible for his actions you try to get him off! I think the mother should be charged as an accessory to the crime. I can see where a child with a parent like that can get in trouble...and probably always will. After all, we all generally act/carry ourselves in a manner that is taught to us by our parents. SHAME ON HER!

Just my thoughts...take them for what there worth. You all may disagree but it won't change my thoughts on it.

hard to put furstration into words when you read stuff like this . it is just wrong to shot the deer and leave them there . in my mind they should have gotten a stiffer penalty than what they got , but it is a good thing that they were caught . thanks go out to the citizen who called it in .

I am glad they got caught and I agree we have all done something stupid as a teen, but nothing that was focused around KILLING! Are you kidding me!

These kids should have had to serve at least a year of hard time in a lock up facility for their actions! You will never see these kids pay the fine money, it will be on the books and that's it. I have dealt with kids that have a judgement against them for theft and they have owed money for years and don't pay it back.

Revoking hunting privileges???? They didn't do it legal the first time so what makes us think they will the next time?

The penalties for this should be much worse! If these were kids who killed your neighbors pets they would have recieved a stiffer penalty, they would have been committed to a state treatment lockdown facility for what they did, but because it was wildlife it's no big deal.We haven't heard the last of small penalties for poaching, until the punishment gets harsher we will continue to see youth do this.

that is a great point i never thought of----- that if it was a neibors pet it would be a bigger deal but since it's JUST are wildlife it no biggy! and to AGCHAWK another great point --- it wasn't just a 1 time offence it was strung out over a 2 month period!! and that mom -- big problem with her-- i just hate to see this many kids getting of in life a big step behind where they should be. Obviously a slight negligence in their upbringing.

"Combined restitution and fines amounted to $17,465 with a combined jail time of 23 months"

Talk about letting them just walk away. That's not even a slap on the wrist. Each teen pays a little over $5000 and spends 4 months in jail. Big deal, they will be back at it again as soon as they get out. 4 months in jail (if they end up serving that much time) is in my opinion not enough time to sufficiently teach them a lesson. The only thing they are going to learn from this is that they can do whatever the heck they want and nothing will happen to them. All I'm gonna say is that in some countries a person would lose a limb for a lot less.

Agreed,
I dont think for what they did is harsh enough!

The fines are a bunch of crap! will they really get paid by the teens? Who knows.

Like AGCHAWK said it was not a spur of the moment thing, it was planned and repeated, The only thing that may teach them a lesson is jail time with real criminals and suspend Hunting priveledges for a LONG time!

That is the whole problem with this place today... NOT ENOUGH PUNISHMENT FOR THE CRIMES COMMITTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANY CRIME
