Time of year- The deer are just starting to loose thier antlers but Febuary and March and April are peak shed times but you can look for them all year.
Where to look-anywhere that deer hang out during the winter such as the winter range but some other good places to look would be fence lines especially where they cross, creek beds, game trails, small canyons that are out of the wind, etc.
Methods for shed huntin'-from a hot air balloon (just kidding!). Hiking, riding a horse, riding an atv, using a shed hunting dog, using shed hunting kids and wife, etc.
Welcome to the West, it is truley a different world than the East. fatrooster.

One thing about bone hunting, You always got to be looking at the ground. Under sage, in the brush, under trees, fences etc. Deer are getting started already, quite a few brown being found. Find places where deer are feeding and the trails they use going back to bedding areas. The white ones show up better. If you don't have snow cover now is the time to look for sheds. Whitetails seem to shed a little earlier then the Mulies.
Where bouts in MT are You?
