Thousand lakes rifle deer tag

I drew a rifle deer tag for the thousand lakes plateau unit. I don't really know anything about this unit except that it was recently changed from a limited entry unit. I am planning to go down in a couple weeks to look around. If anyone has any suggestions on areas down there to look at that would be awesome. Thanks for any help!

Back towards torrey is good but you have to really be careful so that you dont cross the park boundry. Off towards guyser above forsyth reservoir is usually got a few good bucks, come find me when you come down i work at the texaco in loa name is brennan.

That's another thing i was gonna ask, what good lakes are down there that i should stop and fish at? Like i said i have never been down there so i don't know anything about this area yet. Thanks for all the help guys!

There are several lakes on Thousand Lakes itself. Forsyth and Mill Meadow are a couple of others close by..

okay, cool thanks.

And also brennan when you say guyser do you mean geyser peak? I was looking and forsyth reservoir is just out of the boundary. Looks like the boundary is that SR 72 road.

ya thats what i mean and yes 72 is the boundry line but that is a good mark point plus an awesome fishery for tiger trout and perch lately, mill meadows has some goo trout fishing but not much size. A few years ago a fire started out by geyser and i have always seen good bucks there before.

The fair starts the same weekend as the archery hunt so that is always a good time to come visit the area

I'll be heading there for the first week of the archery season. I've never set foot in the unit, or anywhere in Utah, but I plan on hunting hard and covering a lot of ground. If I learn anything during my hunt I'll let you know.

Check out Hens Hole too. Also make sure to hunt the faces along the east side of the highway.

I would go with what he said and go with Forsyth Reservoir...I have seen a couple of nice looking bucks back in there.

No i haven't been able to yet. I was gonna head down this coming weekend but my wife and i just bought a house so I'm a little short on spending money for this month. i probably won't be able to make it down until a week or two before the rifle hunt. Kinda bummed but excited to finally have my own place.

I'll be taking off tomorrow night for my 1000 mile, 4 state journey into the area. Hopefully, my truck will make it (2000 Nissan Frontier with 200,000 miles). I plan on doing a little scouting (driving around and getting to know the terrain) on Thursday afternoon and all day Friday. By Saturday, I should have my deer all picked out and waiting for me :thumb . If that plan doesn't quite work out, I'll have another 5 days to get it done. I'll be sure to give you a recap of my experience when I get back.
