To helical or not to helical? That is my question...

l have always shot the standard 4" long vane that came on almost every aluminum arrow. For the last few years l have been shooting carbon with the same straight 4" vane.

l am looking to put new vanes on my arrows, and was wondering if l should be looking to buy a flecthing jig with a built in helical? Do l want a left or right helical?

l am a right handed shooter with a 28" draw length & 70lbs draw weight

Thanks

The left, right thing is preference only...I've always gone with just the off-set and been fine, get great arrow flight with both 4" vanes and Blazers...A well tuned bow with proper fletch clearance and you're good to go...

Most of todays broadheads are compact and fly great, whereas before with the bigger, planning broadheads the helical was very critical to get the arrow to stabalize that head...

I'd say stay the same... If you're shooting great with your current setup, why would you want to change? Also, Helical can have a negative effect with what type of broadhead's you're using too, what type are you shooting (expandable / fixed blade)? Also, what distance are you shooting at? If 30 yards or under, its not going to make a big difference on your accuracy. I've talked to pro staffers in all the shops around and found that if what you have works for you you shouldn't change it.

The majority of target archers shoot strait fletched arrows. Very rarely do you see a Helical on an arrow anymore. But, same as above, if it ain't broken, why fix it?
