i just got a new trail cam and was looking for some pointers on how/where to hang it up. is it better facing the east or the west or neither? how high off the ground? how far away from the trail/pond? any help is appreciated, its getting close to hanging them and im just after a few pointers from the pros. thanks again

this is the way i hang mine up but i think everyone might do it a little different. when i put it on national forest or just public land i always climb a tree and put it 15 =/- ft up. just so maybe nobdy will hapen upon it a take it.{ unfortunatly you do need to worry about this there are a lot of greedy people out there] make sure its a big enough tree that the wind will not blow the tree and set of your pictures. then i just set it as close to whatever your consentrating on to make sure it goes off every time. If i'm setting my camera out on private property or just some place that i'm not at all worried about people stealing it, i set it anywhere from the ground to eye level. just the best place to attch it to a tree or something. one thing to remember is try not to face it where it will ever be looking at the sun, A.m. or P.M., so i would say face it north or south, i've forgot about this a few times and it messed up 1/2 of my pictures the pics turn out completly white. setting it up at the ground level gives you more of a back ground to look at when there are multiple animals around the camera.

What camera did you get?
( If you are setting up on a Trail) you will need to set up were the critter is walking at or away from the camera ,so you dont just get a rump because the trigger speed will not activate the camera quick enough. All my cameras I can lock up so i usually put them about 5'-7', unless you are in a high traffic area, then i will go about 12'-15' and angle the camera.
If your Camera has a slow Trigger speed it is pretty tough to get good pics on a trail, your best bet will be on a water hhole or food plot.
My main cameras I use now are Cudde, I think they have one of the fastest trigger speed, but this year I am going to try a Swampghost.
Here are a few.

hey cvrn- how do you lock your cameras up so there is no chance of them getting stollen? mine all have a plastic body to them so even if i used a cable you could just clip through the plastic and get it. i would like to figure a way to burgler proof them, their are a lot more places i would like to put them up . i just get to worried they'll get taken.

I am not sure but I think the Moultrie is a slower trigger speed, but as long as you have a good set-up you will be fine.

Are you setting up on a water hole or a trail? If you are setting up on a water hole you will probably only want around two pics per 5 min, or you will have tons of the the same ctitter and kill ur battery and memory.if on a trail i normally do two pics per min.

Good luck this year!
