Unit 54 idaho elk?

Has anybody hunted archery elk in unit 54? I hunted deer up there a little last year and I saw a few bulls. I noticed it is over the counter for archery elk. Is it worth the tag? are there many bulls in there?

Unit 54 has controlled hunts only for elk. This year there were 15 archery permits available with about a 4% chance of drawing.

Hey... MT... I forgot to ask before. What areas did you hunt deer last year? anything that would make pope and young?

If it is a controlled hunt I guess that answers that. I am from Utah but my wife is from Burley, ID. I like to find hunts so that i can hunt when she visits family. I have hunted the late season for 55 the last two years for deer and it is a fun hunt. Lots of deer some bad genetics but a few great bucks. I got to within 50 yards of a 175-185" buck but could never pull off a shot on him. Unit 54 was just a one day archery deer hunt while I was up there in the early season and I just happened to see a bunch of elk while looking for deer. I thought it was over the counter, but I guess not. I saw several bucks in unit 54 but nothing really big. Definetly no pope and young bucks but again I only hunted it one day and I spent 5 days each year on unit 55. I have also hunted in 73a which is west of there and we saw a few nice bucks in there. My buddy killed a 170" buck with a dropptine in 73a with a rifle.
