+1, the only species that I THINK it is legal to use bait for is bear.

I've never baited for deer, but I honestly thought is WAS LEGAL? Are you sure it's not? I'm confused here, please help me as I don't see anything about it being illegal?

I don't really care either way myself, but you have me curious now.

As for it being effective, I honestly don't think it's really that effective...I've used salt before for trail cam pics...but not for hunting purposes. After they shed their velvet, they seem to care less about the salt though. But I have got some great pics from trail cams using salt and also tried Trophy Rock.

Here is one of my favorite bucks I watched of all time that is licking my Salt patch I made in the ground.

I'm pretty sure it is legal. I don't see anywhere it says that it is illegal.

its legal. the only things you can't bait are birds.

Bringing in a salt block or two I can see but wouldn't it be hard to bait with enough to support repetitive visits especially not being close to the road?

if it ia not illegal now then that has changed. I remember reading it in the laws years ago.

Just throwing this out there but if is illegal to "bait" how come you can go to any hunting store or even Walmart and buy attractant? Wouldn't the DWR shut that down due to supporting illegal activites? I have used salt before for trail cams and it works pretty good early in the season but then as it gets closer to hunting season they don't seem to come in as often, possibly due to not needing the extra nutrients to grow antlers maybe....i don't know for sure though. I have looked and looked to try and find info on if it is illegal or legal with no success. So I am guessing if it isn't in the big game guidebook then I really can't see how they would push it if it was illegal and they caught you doing it. Till then I say it is ok to do it. Doesn't make for an easy kill by any means. Just helps them in the growing season in my opinion.

I know you can bait for archery bear in Utah not sure if there is a limit on the amount of bait set out like other states.
