walleye?

So i used to be a very avid fisher (clocked over 100 hours on lakes and streams a back in '07) but i realized that i have never caught a walleye. I have a resivoir less than thirty minutes away thats full of them but i dont know anything about the fish, the best way to catch them, or where they stay in the lake. I could wing it like i usually do (landed me a few good tiger muskies that way) or....... i could ask all my madness friends for help!

No you won't need a steel leader for walleye. I agree with the jig and minnow or crawler especially early in the year when the water is cooler. As the water temp increases you can start pulling bottom bouncers and spinners or a plain snell and a crawler or a leech. Casting or trolling crankbaits can also be extremely effective and can help you cover lots of water quickly. Look for rock/gravel points, sunken islands or large mud flats.

If you are fishing from the bank we always went down under the bridge and bounced a jig tipped with a crawler along the rocks and would pick a few up that way. When we were fishing from a boat we would troll up under the power lines over by where the diversion tunnel comes in we would use either perch patterend crankbaits or bottom bouncers rigged up with a spinner rig with a crawler on it. I know that people have picked them up using bottom bouncers on the submerged humps on the south east side of the lake.

Hope that this helps in some way and good luck on your endevores.
