Wasatch Fron Extended?

Hello folks, this is my first post hre on MM. I was wondering if anyone on here is familiar or close to the Wasatch Front?. I love this rugged countryside plus I live here :thumb . Anyhow, I have had a blast so far this season but the tag is still burning a hole in my pocket. It is some tough going up there but worth every sore muscle. Any info or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks bigbuck,,,im actually getting the hang of where these critters are and going, actually anxious since the pre-rut is upon us so i was looking for any experienced advice. I was also wondering, if lady luck smiles upon me, do we have to report a harvest? and if so, where? I'm being optimistic since i want to stay positive.

The Utah extended hunt may be my favorite of the year, and oh yes it is a challenge! I think that is why I love it. Hunt high for the next couple weeks and then start to hunt the does. If the does are high--hunt high. If they are LOW (just above houses in some cases) hunt low, (be respectful of private property of course) Where ever the does are you will find the bucks. In some cases VERY nice bucks. Whether you hunt high or low if you are good with the glass the big fellers will be popping up soon, I can promise that. Sometimes with other hunters and the steep terain the hard part is getting a nice buck not finding one. I am so excited for the heat of the rut-- I can't wait-- Good luck and I hope to see you on the mountain.

P.S. don't be afraid to put some miles on your legs

hey taz .My advice for the extended is if the deer are starting to rut get some of that doe in heat scent put it in a area where there are some nice bucks and come back the next morning or afternoon and there is sure to be a buck there looking for a hot doe .good luck!

WOW =D> you guys are awesome. I hadnt been able to get logged on for a few days but I really appreciate all your feedback. I grew up hunting 'Whitey's" and these muleys are way different. I did buy some mule deer doe in heat but was reluctant to use some since it seems these guys act different. I will try to give it a shot. I found a really heavy travel corridor this past Sunday(that should say something right? out in the woods instead of watching Football). I was so stoked when i came up on it. The morning was so cold it froze the water in my hydrabag. Iwent to take a drink and "crunch' when i bit the nozzle to squirt some water, checked the thermometer on my pack, 29*,,brrr. But man, finding that funnel was like striking gold. I will be setting up there to check out the traffic and hopefully :arrow one of the boys following the ladies. MTQUIVER- I'm usually up there on Sunday. I have taken some 'special' days off all the way until the end, nov30. My Tahoe is parked at the Mill D trail head. Hope to run into you one of these days. I have yahoo messenger or AOL messenger. I love the area, it's a challenge for sure. Skiing will be easier this winter after all the miles i've logged :) ..thanks again for the warm welcome all.

Wild Antlers , you da man!I'd love to bag a buck like yours. I will give the scent wicks a try. That funnel i foundd has a couple of good pine tree/quakies hidey holes so I can ambush. I cant wait. [-o<

The earlier posts said that you don't have to do a harvest report, that is only partly true.
The state of Utah doesn't require one, but if you, No, I mean when you do get your buck you are required to report it here. complete with pictures and the full story.
Welcome to the forum and good luck. Later Treetop

Ok, i here by agree to post WHEN I succeed. Which by the way, almost happened yesterday. I took the day off since the full moon is in effect. I tracked a Buckie all day from a creek bottom to the top of a hill (9000 ft :) ) and actually got a shot at him (3x3) :arrow and promptly whiffed about a foot high. I used my 30yd pin and should have gone with my 1st instinct to go with 20. He was angled uphill quite a bit, but man what rush. He bolted across, down and over the next ridge in about a minute, which took me about an hour to cover. But I will be back buckie and then :222 :222 :222 ...wait i should have said :arrow :arrow :arrow - man, what a rush.

Taz, how has the hunt been going lately?

Hey Ridgetop,
I've been chasing a 4pt for the last week but he is quite wary. Mt Quiver's buck in the same area has giving me more hope even with time running out. Hoping this weeks storm can drop some more snow and make em come down a bit. this bit of public land is rugged going but very satisfying to be able to do it. I am hopeful as always and hope to eat tag soup, but like your sig says 'There is always next year' and now i have more knowledge of the terrain for my 2nd season in 07. :thumb

Don't give up. The weather next week will help a ton. Went out today with some friends and saw tons of small bucks. One buddy got two shots at a decent 4 point and passed on a 4 by 1. This was a nice buck but he was busted off above the eyegaurd on one side. I had it on video so I tried to talk one of them into a shot but they wouldn't do it. Good luck to everybody.

Well my blood brothers, it is official. TAG SOUP for me this year. I never got the chance to go back out after Sunday. But i will consider it a success for the simple reason of getting back into the game. Not to mention the abundance of critters who crossed my path. It will be a very memorable time, and even though the freezer isnt happy :nono: , there is always next year. I want to say thanks to all of you for your advice and warm welcome.
