Got the Leopold scope mount system for it and I have a new 3.5 - 10 x 40 mm long range Mark 4 tactical scope for it so I should be able to reach out and do some damage.

Hey Jim a couple years ago I bought the same gun new online out of South Dakota for $499. I put a nikon 3X9 on it, but after one outing it was obvious that my style of hunting was way too hard for a pretty stock like that, so I pulled it off and ebayed it for like $160. Then I bought a super lightweight 8oz fiberglass stock from MPI. I put a timney trigger and a luepold 4X12 AO on it and the thing shot 1/2 groups. Recoil went through the roof when I put that stock on it, so I had a ex nasa engineer out of Eugene OR put a brake on it. Surprisingly, the noise level didn't change much, but the recoil completly dissapeared. So much it fact, that sometimes I think the gun almost moves forward when shot.

Then I met this girl and talked her into hunting with me. So I cut the stock down and she had a PERFECT hunting gun. Lightweight, no recoil, extremly flat shooting, great looking gun (her too), and definetly the talk of camp. You don't find too many 115 pound women shooting a 300 RUM.
The whole thing including scope cost right around $1200. I think it was a great deal and I love that gun.

My dad has an LSS in 300 RUM with a leupold 4x12 AO with the B&C Reticle as well as a custom trigger. He also had a break put on his and he is putting a sims recoild pad on. He shoots an honest 9/16' group with it. Very nice gun.

The Remington should come with their R3 recoil pad that really works well in reducing felt recoil. I had a Remington 700 CDL in the 300 RUM and it shot great with a big push but not a sharp kick. Try shooting it before spending dollars on a muzzlebreak is my recommendation.
