Well, I start my new job today

Well guys and gals, I start my new "Civilian job" today. I got hired as the Business Manager for a Janitorial and Supply company right here in Clarkston. I interviewed for the job last week and at the end of the interview the owner said "I don't even need to look at anyone else...you have the job." Apparently he's been lookin' for a Manager for about a year now and was impressed enough that he hired me on the spot.
Of course, I am still the #1 candidate for the Corrections Officer position also. I did NOT mention that to the owner of the company though. I felt bad about it but I doubt he would have even talked to me if I had.
Anyway, I'll keep you all posted!

But don't give up on this job for the Corrections Officer job just yet. You may find you really like this job and I'm sure your base pay will increase over time. Also, I'm sure you won't be working shift hours, have every weekend off, etc.
I thought about going into LE but just had no desire to work a gov't job, unless things got desperate. Luckily, that hasn't happened...yet.
Just saying, give this job a shot and you just might find you will really enjoy it and may end up passing when the call comes for the other job.
On somewhat of the same topic, I found out a "possible" reason that employers are hesitant to hire retired military is that they "know" they will leave in a flash for a job they are really looking to get. I know I would if I had gotten a "fill in" job while waiting for the call.
ABert, you are spot on...and I am not giving up on this job just yet. The owner was EXTREMELY adamant about taking care of me. He's been the acting manager/supervisor for over a year and he stated at least 10 times "If you can take over the operations and allow me time away from the business you WILL be well taken care of."
The pay doesn't start off too great but of course, I have no issues "proving myself" before I start moving up the pay scale.
All in all, the first day was short but I liked it a lot. My first FULL DAY will be 01JUN and I'll move on from there. I sure hope I can live up to his expectations. My only real concern is how I will adjust to working with civilians. As you know ABert, when a Chief or an Officer barks an order, it's followed...or else. I'm sure I'll have to make some adjustments in the way I deal with folks now that I am in the civilian community again.
Oh yea...I DON'T HAVE TO SHAVE EVERY DAY! It's been 20 years since I could say that...LOL.
