Well, she's almost finished!

Just a follow-up to a thread I started a while back.

For those of you that missed it, I have had a '92 Chevy stepside for years. It was used for nothing more than hauling wood, trash, etc and was pretty beat up. Not to mention, the paint they used on that year of truck was not the greatest and was peeling EVERYWHERE. In fact, it looks more like a Piebald truck than a white step-side.

Anyway, my oldest son is 16 and needed some transportation of his own. He has great grades, plays football and basketball, and has his own job so I decided to reward him by restoring the old Chevy and allowing him to use it until he graduates High School. (The truck is still mine as I am pretty attached to the old girl)

With retirement coming and the prospects of a SEVERE pay cut also approaching we were torn about the restoration. However, I remember when I was in High School and drove around in a beat up '72 Plymouth Duster....and how I WISHED I could make it a little more "aesthetically pleasing." We went ahead, bought the stuff we needed to get the project done, and went to work on it. We did the work at my Father-in-law's place, completely stripping the truck, bondoing the dents and dings, primering it, painting it, clear coating it, and rolled on a new bedliner. Meanwhile, my Brother-in-law rebuilt the engine, dropped a new tranny in it, and 5 months later she's pretty much complete! It's certainly not "professionally done" but I am pretty damned happy with the job we did on it.

I attached a few pics. Sorry, they are not the best. I will try to get some better ones during the next day or two and post them up for you all. (Yes, the birds showed thier appreciation for the work within an hour of getting her back home....AARRGGG)

(FYI: I will start the restoration on the interior after I retire and find additional employment. I can't wait to get started either!)

Looks great! I've got a '90 sitting in the back yard at the moment (needs an ignition switch) that I sold/gave to my son a few years back. I know what you mean about the paint during those years. Drive train is closing in on 300,000 miles and still runs pretty dang good. I hated selling/giving it to my son but I'm sure you know how "persuasive" a wife can be!
